Journey to the Podium
In the build up to the London 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games, Essex County Council set up the Team Essex Ambassador Scheme which aimed to support and nurture local athletes who have been identified as having the potential to compete in the London 2012 games .
To celebrate and capture these talented athletes, the Arts Development Team commissioned Alan Hockett as one of six artists to ‘Adopt an Athlete’ and create an artwork that marked their Journey to the Podium or at least the 2012 Games
Alan was paired with James Huckle who was part of the GB shooting team, attending training sessions and interviewing James to enable him to gain an insight into his personality and training style before they collaborated on the final piece.
